ASI is a service organization managing the licensing of the AARP brand and related assets and overseeing the provider relationships that deliver products and services to the 50+ population. ASI’s mission is to inspire new and innovative business practices, guide consumers to make informed choices, and deliver products and services that better fulfill life-stage needs Directs the overall financial management activities of the organization which manages more than 65 million member relationships/transaction annually and generates nearly $1B in annual revenues for AARP. Oversees financial/business analysis, budgeting/forecasting, and strategy support. Leads the development and executive communication of the organization’s budgeting and forecasting plans, ensuring required linkages and alignment with AARP’s efforts. Provides reporting, analysis, and business insight to the Audit Committees and Boards of AARP Services, Inc. (ASI) and AARP, as well as the senior executive leadership of AARP. Directs the development and delivery of business reporting and analysis to meet the specific needs of ASI business units and facilitate the effective utilization of the organization’s assets. Ensures that analysis and reporting is objective and impartial to support effective business decision-making. Fosters a culture of fiscal responsibility and accountability throughout the organization. Works with senior management to identify opportunities to more cost-effectively deliver services to AARP. Leads the development of the provider financial risk management process. Assesses the financial health of key providers and communicates findings to ASI leadership on a quarterly basis. Partners with various staff/departments within ASI to identify, explore, and evaluate financial plans and programs that facilitate the delivery of products and services to AARP members. Identifies and evaluates alternatives to fund development efforts. Counsels on the implications of proposed financial decisions with respect to substantive, as well as procedural matters. Leads the financial due diligence process of potential providers. Analysis includes a detailed review of company financial statements, company news and trends, as well as customer feedback and experience. Ensures that budgets and forecasts present a fair and balanced view of ASI’s financial potential. Ensures the budget directly supports the operating plan priorities, with direct linkages to ASI’s strategic plan. Engages ASI department management to thoroughly evaluate the budget and forecasts and develop recommendations to maximize opportunities and mitigate risks. Communicates budget and forecast results to ASI staff and AARP senior management. Leads financial/business analytic efforts within ASI. Communicates key business trends to management stakeholders on a timely basis. Demonstrates a keen ability to take abstract or detailed data and effectively distill key takeaways for senior management. Establishes and manages key business relationships with management at all levels throughout AARP and with external customers and business partners, including service providers, auditors, ratings agencies, and lenders. Represents the CFO’s office with both internal and external high-level audiences. Leads a team of financial, planning, and analysis professionals. Provides ongoing coaching and guidance and identifies development opportunities for staff. Completion of a Master’s degree in Finance or Accounting and 15-20 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position. Outstanding financial skills and a strong understanding of accounting principles are necessary, coupled with the ability to take an innovative and problem-solving approach to the finance function. Knowledge of standard accounting practices, business law, relevant current legislation, legal precedents, and appellate decisions impacting financial operations and activities and taxation law. Ability to work effectively in a matrix environment, to gain credibility, and to build consensus with superiors, peers, subordinates, and outside partners. Proven ability to quickly understand and interpret strategic issues and directions. Demonstrated strong analytical, project management, and strategic-thinking capabilities are required. Excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with a variety of personalities and work styles. Ability to influence all levels of management. Demonstrated diplomatic, networking, and delegation skills. Highly developed skills in communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, and leadership. Skilled at making formal presentations to executive management, Boards of Directors, and senior-level external constituencies. High-energy level, team player dedicated to excellent customer service for internal and external customers. Ability to motivate and inspire staff. Demonstrated ability to build and manage effective and efficient teams.
